Blackburn Rovers will be looking for a quick return to form on Saturday afternoon, as they host Championship league leaders Norwich City at Ewood Park.

Tony Mowbray’s side saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end with a late 1-0 defeat at Bristol City on Wednesday night, and they will no doubt be keen to get back on track against the Canaries.

Selection issues will once again give Mowbray a headache in the lead up to this one, and Joe Rankin-Costello, Corry Evans and Scott Wharton all remain long-term absentees for Rovers.

But who else could Mowbray have available to call upon this weekend?

Here, we take a look at all latest Blackburn team news coming out of Ewood Park ahead of that clash wth Norwich.

Ben Brereton

Having missed his side’s last two games with a knee problem, Brereton will once again be absent on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mowbray confirmed the attacker will miss both this weekend’s clash with Norwich, and the home game against Rotherham on Wednesday, but is hopeful Brereton could be back in contention over the festive period.

Lewis Travis

Central midfielder Travis has not featured since suffering a serious knee injury during the League Cup defeat at Newcastle back in September.

However, the 23-year-old is being lined up for a return to training in the coming weeks, with the view to making a welcome return to action for Rovers early in the new year.

Elliott Bennett

Another whose opportunities have been restricted by injury so far this season, is club captain Elliott Bennett.

The midfielder turned right-back has made just one appearance during the campaign, having been out for some time now with an ankle problem, but he too is expected to return to training soon, and could provide Blackburn with a welcome source of cover on the right of their defence come the start of 2021.

Bradley Dack

It was revealed recently that Rovers are targeting the FA Cup tie with Doncaster on second weekend of January for Dack to make his long-awaited comeback from the ACL injury suffered in late 2019.

Now it seems as though preparations for that return are stepping up a notch. Like Travis and Bennett, Mowbray is anticipating that Dack to return to full training over the Christmas period, which will hopefully allow him to be ready for action when January arrives.

Darragh Lenihan

With Blackburn’s appeal against the straight red card received by Lenihan at Brentford last weekend having been rejected, the centre back was forced to sit out the midweek match at Ashton Gate.

But with that one-match suspension now complete, Lenihan is once again available for selection against the Canaries, and Mowbray has already confirmed that the Republic of Ireland international will return to the starting XI on Saturday afternoon.

Tom Trybull

One player Rovers will have to do without for reasons other than fitness issues on Saturday, is Tom Trybull.

The on loan Norwich midfielder, who has made ten appearances for Rovers so far this season, is ineligible to play against his parent club, meaning he will be forced to settle for a place on the sidelines on Saturday afternoon.
