The South African was a major target for the newly promoted Tractor Boys.
Lyle Foster is now set to stay at Burnley after talks with Ipswich Town over a loan deal for the striker broke down.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has stated that the Clarets did try to move their current first choice number nine on to Portman Road this summer, with a permanent deal being discussed, but Ipswich have ended up pulling out of the negotiations after talks over a loan-to-buy deal occurred.
Burnley have gone from a pretty stable position earlier in the summer, having kept most of their squad together, to a place where they have been picked off by teams at a higher level.
Wilson Odobert, Sander Berge, Dara O'Shea, Johann Gudmondsson, Wout Weghorst - they're all gone.
Foster was shaping up to be the latest name added to that list, but his future now remains at Turf Moor, as things stand.
The deal between the Clarets and Kieran McKenna's side, that was supposed to be in a good place, has collapsed after Ipswich exited negotiations for the South African forward.
It was reported earlier in the summer that the striker was happy to stay at Turf Moor, despite the club's relegation to the Championship.
Talks between the two sides were said to be ongoing on Thursday, after Tavolieri reported that Foster's proposed move to Portman Road, which would have included a £25 million mandatory buy clause at the end of the loan, was at an advanced stage.
They have already sold one star asset (O'Shea) to Ipswich this summer. This deal, however, appears to be dead in the water.
Foster not moving to the Premier League side may have a knock-on effect on Burnley's other deadline day deals. Leicester City striker Tom Cannon was a reported target for them, according to Alan Nixon, but they were only going to make a move for the former Preston North End loanee if they moved on Foster.
Burnley have made a second bid for Plymouth Argyle's star winger, Morgan Whittaker. They are reportedly confident about getting a deal done for the 23-year-old, who scored 19 goals in the Championship last season.
This comes after their first offering for the player - a bid that was described as "laughable" by Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney - was rejected.
For a team that is hoping to be up at the top of the table, challenging for promotion, being happy to let go of your first choice striker is a bit odd.
Tavolieri's statement that the Clarets tried to sell Foster to Ipswich is baffling, especially given their lack of depth up top.
Without him, Andres Hountondji - an unproven 22-year-old summer signing - would have been the likely first option up front for Scott Parker, or maybe 35-year-old Jay Rodriguez.
