Reo Hatate’s injury issues this season have continued while on international duty at the Asian Cup.

The Japanese midfielder has suffered from fitness problems throughout a stop-start campaign at Parkhead but despite those issues, was still called up for Japan along with Daizen Maeda for the four-week tournament.

During Japan’s round of 16 meeting with Bahrain on Wednesday, Hatate exited after 34 minutes with a calf injury.

Although early suggestions from Japan are that the issue is not serious and was likely more of a precautionary measure, an official update has yet to follow from the team’s medical staff.

Japan saw off Bahrain 3-1 to qualify for the quarter-final stage.

Club team-mate Maeda was an unused substitute.
