Chris Sutton's immediate reaction to Celtic losing vs Rangers

The good news is that Celtic's loss against the Rangers is not expected to have any impact on the title race. They are still 13 points ahead of the Ibrox club. The bad news is that they have now lost back-to-back games against their Glasgow rivals and this was their third terrible derby performance on the trot. They did win the Scottish League Cup final on penalties but they were nowhere up to the mark on that day.
That does not make for good reading if you are Brendan Rodgers. Not too long ago, Celtic were winning derbies for fun.
Now, things seem to be tight in these games once again. And one cannot overlook the fact that this is a bad Rangers team that has struggled all season.
Of course, many will point to the fact that Celtic did not have Callum McGregor and Auston Trusty on the day. Two nailed-on starters for the Hoops. Liam Scales was also unavailable meaning that Maik Nawrocki found himself starting in the Glasgow Derby completely out of the blue.
Even then, there cannot be an excuse for how Celtic ended up conceding a third after doing so well in the second half to get back into the game and make it 2-2. Not good enough for a team hoping to progress further in Europe next season.
Chris Sutton gave his take on the result and the performance after the game. He wrote on X:
"Superb advert for the Scottish game. Igamane took his goal superbly and deserved of winning any game.Bottom line is the gap at the top is 13 points with 8 games left. I know who I’d rather be. Fair play to Rangers who play well when the pressure and expectation isn’t on them…"
Perhaps it is that there was not much riding on the result that led to a performance like this. Or the unavailability of key players. Or the fact that this Rangers team were entering the game on a high note after booking their place in the last eight of the Europa League days ago. Probably it was a combination of all three.
One thing is clear, though, Celtic must win the next Glasgow Derby. Losing thrice on the trot, against this Rangers team, would be unthinkable, even if they end up winning the treble this season.
