After an arduous midweek win against Fenerbahce in the Europa League Round of 16, Rangers clashed heads with Old Firm rivals Celtic this afternoon at Celtic Park. Despite little time to recover following 120 minutes of action on Thursday night, the Gers showed more grit and determination in this battle for prestige and pride.

Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande fired in to earn a two-goal cushion in the first half, but the Hoops staged a comeback, thanks to their Japanese pair Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. While the momentum was with the home side, substitute Hamza Igamane scripted a plot twist by finding the net with a stellar strike minutes before the final whistle.

Jack Butland: 7

Made a crucial save to deny Reo Hatate moments after Raskin’s opener. Was at fault during Maeda’s early second half goal as a terrible kickout from the custodian instigated the move. Made some key saves to keep the scoreline level before registering the assist for Igamane’s winner.

James Tavernier: 7

His pinpoint cross from the corner resulted in the early opener. Played his part in the build-up of Diomande’s goal but was poor at the back when Maeda outjumped him without any challenge before nodding home soon into the second half.

John Souttar: 6.5

Had a mixed outing as he made some key clearances and recoveries but looked nervy against the Hoops’ swift passing moves and free-flowing football.

Leon Balogun: 7

Had a header denied by Kasper Schmeichel in the Celts’ goal. Showed great composure with his tackles, interceptions and recoveries. But the veteran centre-half looked worn out, which eventually saw him making way for Robin Propper ten minutes into the second half.

Dujon Sterling: 7

Should have done better against Maeda during Celtic’s first goal of the afternoon. Was solid otherwise with his timely overlapping runs and the physical presence while defending deep. Made way for Clinton Nsiala in the closing minutes of the contest.

Nicolas Raskin: 9

Had an exquisite first half as the Belgian midfield ace not only nodded home early into the game but also set it up for Diomande to double the lead late in the first half.

Connor Barron: 6

Should have closed down the space in the build-up of Hatate’s equalizer. Was confined to marshalling the backline and lacked the physical and aerial supremacy while engaging in duels. Was taken off for Tom Lawrence late in the game.

Ridvan Yilmaz: 6.5

Balanced his game between defence and attack while featuring from his preferred left-hand flank due to Jefte’s absence. Could have done better to stop Jota’s cross during Maeda’s goal.

Vaclav Cerny: 6.5

Caused menace in the Celtic defence with his dribbles and directness. His poor decision-making wasted a scoring opportunity early into the outing. Was taken off for Hamza Igamane, which turned out to be the masterstroke from Barry Ferguson.

Mohamed Diomande: 8

Was combative during the duels and spot-on with his tackles. Doubled the lead late in the first half after picking up Raskin’s pass. Made way for Ianis Hagi midway through the second half.

Cyriel Dessers: 6

Mostly stayed isolated upfront with the least number of touches of any outfield player to play 90 minutes. But his presence inside the box kept the depleted Celtic defence on its toes.

Found it hard to settle in against the Bhoys’ flair and finesse in the attacking third.

Ianis Hagi: 6

Did not offer anything spectacular since replacing Diomande.
