AC Milan continue to experience a season full of ups and downs on the field, but in the stands the support of the fans must be commended.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan are somewhat back in the race for a Champions League spot having trimmed the gap to six points, but they must overtake Bologna, Juventus, Lazio, Fiorentina and even Roma.

What stings more for the fans is the fact that the Rossoneri were 11 points away at one point, with the Scudetto having been declared the aim at the start of the season. The Champions League elimination against Feyenoord also left a bitter taste.

In a climate of open protest, however, there is one statistic that places Milan at the top of the Serie A standings and that is the average number of spectators. The Curva Sud continue to voice their displeasure, as they did during Milan-Como, yet there were 74,500 tickets sold.

Milan are first in terms of average fans in Serie A with a figure of 71,591 spectators per match (out of 15 played at San Siro). The Diavolo are ahead of Inter (2nd at 69,794) and Roma (3rd at 61,973). Milan are the only team to exceed the one million mark for total attendance, too (1,073,864).

San Siro is obviously the stadium with the largest capacity in Italy and, consequently, the first two places for average spectators of Milan and Inter are normal even if this year the Rossoneri have overtaken them.

Considering the percentage of seats occupied, Milan falls to 5th place with 94.54% of the seats occupied for each match. At the top of this particular ranking are Cagliari (97.94%), Juventus (97.13%) and Como (97.07%).
