AC Milan went on a scouting mission over the weekend to watch Reda Belahyane in action for Hellas Verona against Cagliari, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com claim that a Milan scout was present at the Unipol Domus Cagliari on Friday night to observe Belahyane up close. The Moroccan’s performance was not one to tell his grandchildren about, but the Rossoneri feels he is a player with interesting characteristics.

More importantly perhaps they view him as a talent with plenty of room for growth, both physically and technically. He is just 20 years of age but is accruing valuable minutes in the top flight, and this could tempt them in view of January.

Credit must go to Verona director Sean Sogliano who signed Belahyane from OGC Nice for just €500k. He is now worth around €8m, even if the Gialloblu are hoping to get €10m+ for a player with his potential, especially mid-season.

For Milan, Belahyane remains the main candidate for January even if he is not the only one. He has costs that are not too high, he is liked by both the directors and the head coach Paulo Fonseca and he can be put in the squad list without anyone leaving because he is under 22.

There is strong interest in Belahyane from both Marseille and Inter but it is Lazio who want to move early to try to close the deal quickly. Claudio Lotito intends to leverage the excellent relationship with Verona, but it might not be enough because Milan’s interest has flattered the player a lot.

Further missions are planned to watch the player up close. Belahyane can play both as a defensive midfielder or as a box-to-box man, and he could ‘replace’ Yunus Musah in terms of offering depth in the middle because the American is now being used more on the right.
