FIFA has released the prize money that will go to clubs for the upcoming Club World Cup. As fans know already, Borussia Dortmund will likely face a financial struggle should the club fail to qualify for a European competition next season. Therefore, the prize money from the Club World Cup will go a long way in helping BVB brace for a season with considerably less TV revenue.

The prize money is split into two pots: one for performance and one for participation. The pot for participation totals $525 million, and the performance pillar totals $475 million. A win of the tournament could yield a mouthwatering $125 million for BVB, which is more than enough to cover for the probable lack of Champions League football next season.

The participation prize money is set between $12.81- $38.1.9 million for teams coming from Europe. According to FIFA, the total amount a team receives from this range is determined by sporting and commercial criteria. This is a pretty large gap, but we can do some simple math to predict how much BVB may receive.

FIFA has released how much each team from every other region will earn for participating in the tournament. After subtracting this total from $525 million, there is $306 million left for the 12 European sides. The average payment would then be $25 million per European club, and that is around what BVB should expect to receive for participation. FIFA's club rankings have Dortmund as the 6th highest-ranked team from the region, so receiving the average payment is, therefore, a valid assumption.
