As we head towards the summer transfer window, a number of Celtic players are being linked with moves away from Parkhead. That is understandable, considering the fact that the Hoops are closing in on another domestic treble and even made it to the knockout phase of the Champions League for the first time in more than a decade.
On the other hand, there are also Celtic players who are currently out on loan, who have been impressing. One name that stands out in that respect is that of Gustaf Lagerbielke.
Lagerbielke was sent out on loan to FC Twente in the summer. And he has succeeded in becoming a regular starter for the Dutch club, and has even made it back into the Sweden national team picture.
Lagerbielke has been enjoying a great time on loan in the Eredivisie. As reported by AD (via Daily Record), FC Twente are considering a £3 million offer to make the switch permanent.
Celtic signed Lagerbielke from IF Elfsborg and he came in with a big reputation as one of the rising talents in Swedish football. It would be safe to say that it did not work out for him at Parkhead.
He did not seem to suit the style of play that Brendan Rodgers wanted his team to play. Thus, sending him out on loan in the summer was the right step.
Even though he has been impressive out on loan, it might be the right step to find him a new home in the summer on a permanent basis. That is because Rodgers is set to stay on as manager and in his system, Lagerbielke is not expected to have much of a future. So, it might be the best move for all parties.
