After last season’s nightmare, INEOS’ first port of call this summer window was strengthening at the back and three out of four signings have been defenders.

Leny Yoro’s capture from Lille was a major coup while after a long delay, the Red Devils finally landed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

With the new co-owners planning further additions, player sales will be necessary. One player the club is desperately trying to move on is Victor Lindelof.

United recently even held a meeting to discuss about letting the Swede leave. His wages at Old Trafford were proving to be a stumbling block but interest from around Europe is increasing by the day.

Lindelof’s future

The centre-back missed 22 games last term due to injury and was far from his usual self when he was fit, with the manager opting to use him out on the left, a position in which he struggled massively.

He was an unused substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield and did not play much in pre-season either owing to a slight niggle.

Yoro and De Ligt’s capture has meant the Swede has slid even further down the pecking order and with Harry Maguire set to stay, it is the former Benfica ace whose time in England seems to be coming to a close.

According to Frankfurter Rundschau, Eintracht Frankfurt are eyeing the 30-year-old to strengthen at the back with the Sweden international also keen on earning regular minutes.

Dino Toppmöller’s side moved on Willian Pacho and failed to land top target Konstantinos Koulierakis and are now eyeing the United man, whose contract ends in 2025 after the club triggered the one-year extension option in his deal.

Frankfurt want Lindelof

“In Toppmöller’s case, it concerns the signing of a new central defender after Eintracht sold Willian Pacho and the preferred successor, Konstantinos Koulierakis, surprisingly declined and preferred to go to Wolfsburg.

“Whatever the case, the coach has another gap in his team and sporting director Markus Krösche is under a lot of pressure after the latest developments.

“Eintracht is now ready to invest a larger sum again. The five-week preparation period has shown that this will be necessary for sporting reasons. One eye is apparently being kept on Manchester United, where the 30-year-old Swedish international Victor Lindelöf no longer has a regular place.”

His current market value stands at €15 million as per Transfermarkt and the 20-time English league champions would do well to earn such a fee from his sale.
