Eredivisie side announce manager has left to join Manchester United | OneFootball

Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles have confirmed that head coach Rene Hake is joining Manchester United.

The Dutch coach, who worked with Erik ten Hag at FC Twente, was spotted arriving at United’s Carrington training complex earlier this week alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Along with the former Manchester United goalscorer, Hake joins the club as a new member to Ten Hag’s coaching team.

The Manchester Evening News claims the new coaching duo are still waiting on visas before they can start working at Carrington.

A statement issued on Go Ahead Eagles’ club website said: “After two seasons, the collaboration between Rene Hake and Go Ahead Eagles comes to an end. Hake has been active as head coach at Go Ahead Eagles since 2022 and qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Conference League last season. In his first season, Hake and his team finished in eleventh place in the Eredivisie. Hake then earned forty points with his team and just missed out on qualifying for the play-offs for European football. A season later, the coach did manage to do so: last season, Go Ahead Eagles finished ninth in the Eredivisie. In the play-offs, it was then too strong for NEC and FC Utrecht, which meant that Hake and his men qualified for European football. Under Hake, Go Ahead Eagles also finished in the left row of the Eredivisie for the first time since 1979. Go Ahead Eagles would like to thank Rene Hake for the past two seasons and wishes him every success in Manchester.”

As a result of the new arrivals, Benni McCarthy has left the club but Steve McClaren will remain. The future also looks bleak for Mitchell van de Gaag unless he has another job up his sleeve.

Hopefully, Van Nistelrooy and Hake can help bring positive changes to the team over the coming years.
