France’s all-time record goalscorer is now the most-capped player in the history of the national team.

In Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League match against Iceland, Eugénie Le Sommer (35) collected her 199th cap with Les Bleues, surpassing Sandrine Soubeyrand for the most appearances ever.

She came on in the 79th minute for Marie-Antoinette Katoto (26) in a game which took place at Marie Marvingt Stadium in Le Mans.

Katoto scored one of the three French goals on the day, with their other strikes coming courtesy of Sandy Baltimore (25) and Khadidiatou Diani (29) in a narrow 3-2 triumph.

With the victory Laurent Bonadei’s side are on top of the Group 2 table, collecting six points from two matches played.

The longtime striker for Olympique Lyonnais Féminin now has more career caps and goals (94) than anybody in the history of the French men’s and women’s teams.

Le Sommer is one of only three women’s players to claim eight UEFA Champions League titles and is also the third-highest scorer in the competition’s history, netting 50 times.

The Grasse-born attacker missed their 4-2 friendly defeat against the reigning world champions Spain through injury and hasn’t started for Les Bleues since a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in a November friendly, scoring her most recent goal for the national team on that occasion.

She is six goals away from reaching the century mark for the national team, netting 37 more than the record goalscorer for Les Bleus, Olivier Giroud (38). Her 199 caps are 54 more than Hugo Lloris’ record number of caps for the men’s team.

Le Sommer can reach 200 international caps on April 4 when France face Switzerland on matchday three of the Nations League campaign.
