West Ham United have been handed a massive boost in their hopes of signing a striker before the January transfer window closes on February 3rd.

The Hammers have been linked with half the strikers in Europe as they bid to strengthen their attacking options in the absence of Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug.

So far, they’ve had a club-record bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran turned down.

The Colombian striker was West Ham’s primary target, but Villa’s outrageous asking price forced the Hammers to consider other alternatives.

They’re currently working on a deal to sign Andre Silva from RB Leipzig but are still keeping their options open.

One of the names that have been strongly linked with a move to the London Stadium in recent days is Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham have approached Ajax to inquire about the conditions of a potential deal. The Eredivisie giants are not opposed to a sale, but there’s a catch.

Ajax want permanent exit for West Ham target Brian Brobbey

West Ham initially approached Ajax about a six-month loan deal for Brobbey, but the Eredivisie powerhouse aren’t interested in a temporary deal.

However, Romano reports that they’d be more attentive to West Ham’s proposal if they’re willing to sign Brobbey on a permanent deal or a loan with a mandatory purchase option.

Brobbey has struggled in front of goal this season, returning just three goals and seven assists in 29 games across all competitions.

He has scored just once in 17 Eredivisie games, missing an astonishing 11 big chances and recording a paltry 4% goal conversion rate.

Brobbey is having a terrible season, but his numbers from last term suggest he has what it takes to turn things around with a run of games.

He netted 22 times and provided 12 assists in 43 games in all competitions, including 18 goals in 30 Eredivisie games as Ajax finished 5th.

Brobbey’s numbers this season make for grim reading. At 22, he still has plenty of room for improvement, but signing him is a risk that could go either way for West Ham.
