Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side will be aiming to end the season on a high when they face Tottenham Hotspur at Walton Hall Park on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a campaign of two halves for The Toffees with the team having struggled for wins in the first half of the season before hitting top form since the winter break.

With one game remaining, Everton could finish as high as sixth in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen said that his side are targeting a strong end to the campaign.

“We will try to end the season as well as we can,” Sørensen said. “There’s a good vibe after beating Liverpool, everyone is in a good mood. We are looking forward to ending on a high.

“If results go our way, we could finish sixth and nobody would have thought that 10 games ago, so I’m very pleased.”

Latest opponents Spurs travel to Merseyside on the back of a 10-game winless run in all competitions. Sørensen believes that it is the small details that have let The Lilywhites down.

He said “They’ve been playing ok. Sometimes, their performances have deserved a little more but it’s a tough league to play in and you’ve got to get the little details right.

“They’ve been struggling to maybe hold onto wins or be clinical in both boxes. You saw it with Brighton where they’d had a tough period then they beat us and got a win against Arsenal. There’s not much that needs to happen for things to change.

“In the first half of the season, we didn’t have any wins until the seventh or eighth game but it wasn’t that we were performing bad, we just didn’t get the details right.

“You need to be really sharp, get the details right and if you can do that, you’ll pick up more points.”

Sørensen went on to discuss plans for the off-season. Players will begin to regroup in late July, although the international schedule will impact pre-season preparations in different ways.

He said “We have a nine-week break until we start pre-season at the end of July. It’s a long period but if you map out all of our players, there’s maybe only three that aren’t involved in big tournaments or haven’t got any national team involvement.

“They need some rest, so some will rest straight after the last game, others will be in the building for 14 days and then it fits in with the national teams, they don’t have the resting time in there. It’s going to be a super-busy summer for the majority of the squad. Everyone that we are recruiting will be playing in a big tournament too.”
