Former striker Felipe Caicedo admits that, even with his connection with Simone Inzaghi, he’s rooting for Lazio over Inter Milan tomorrow.

The Ecuadorian gave his thoughts in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Caicedo is hardly the only player to play for both Lazio and Inter.

However, the former Espanyol and Manchester City striker is one of a handful to play for both clubs under Simone Inzaghi as coach.

It was Inzaghi who actually brought Caicedo to Inter. The striker arrived in January of 2022 as an emergency reinforcement in attack due to injuries.

In the end, Caicedo hardly made an impact at Inter. He made just three Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri, none of them starts.

On the other hand, Caicedo was a real stalwart for Inzaghi at Lazio.

In terms of his goals and holdup play, the Ecuadorian always showed a perfect understanding of what the then-Biancocelesti coach needed from him in his system.

Naturally, Caicedo still feels an affinity for his old club Lazio.

But at the same time, it is natural that the 36-year-old will wish the best for his old coach Inzaghi, who got the best out of him for several seasons.

Caicedo said that “I’m very close to [Inzaghi], and to his coaching staff.”

“And I have a lot of respect for Inter,” the Ecuadorian went on. “But my heart says Lazio.”

Caicedo predicted that “It will be a balanced match.”

“The Olimpico will be full. And the Biancocelesti have already beaten Simone’s Nerazzurri twice before.”

Then Caicedo said that “Inzaghi has been exceptional at Inter.”

“The Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa titles. It could have been perfect with the Champions League.”

“But I think this season they’ll still be right in the mix in Europe.”

Caicedo said that Inzaghi “Pushes his team to goals that seem impossible.”
