Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes has provided a very encouraging update on his condition after requiring hospitalisation for a head injury.

Gomes suffered the head injury during Lille’s Ligue 1 clash against Reims this weekend.

This came about as a result of a clash of heads with Amadou Kone, who was shown a straight red card for the incident.

Gomes came out the worst of the two, requiring medical attention that led to a delay of 34 minutes. As he was receiving treatment, both Lille and Reims’ players formed a circle around the Carrington academy graduate as both sets of fans chanted his name.

The 23-year-old was eventually strapped to a stretcher and taken off the pitch. Lille later confirmed that he had regained consciousness and was in hospital.

United sent a message to Gomes via their X account saying, “Sending love and strength to Angel Gomes, who has been taken to hospital following a collision while playing for Lille.”

“We’re thinking of you, Angel.”

Earlier on Sunday, Gomes – who was released by the Red Devils in 2020 – posted an update on Instagram from hospital.

In the post, Gomes is pictured on a trolley wearing a neck brace.

He wrote, “Just a message to let everyone know that I’m all good!”

“The support has been overwhelming and I just thank God everything is okay. Love and blessings!”

“PS. Remind me not to jump for no more headers.”

Gomes spent 14 years at Old Trafford and made 10 senior appearances before leaving for Lille. Before lining up for the French outfit, he spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Portuguese club Boavista.
