Former Inter Milan defender Massimo Paganin believes Atalanta will challenge the Nerazzurri for the Scudetto this season.
During his latest interview with News.Superscommesse.it via FCInterNews, Paganin warned Inter of the imminent threat posed by La Dea.
Inter’s Serie A title defense had started with a whimper rather than a bang.
However, after frequently dropping points in the early stage of the campaign, they’ve got back on the rails.
Monday’s 6-0 demolition of Lazio lifted the 20-time Italian champions to second in the standings, three points below Atalanta.
With a game in hand, Inter are in prime position to ascend the throne in the coming weeks.
For context, they swept La Dea aside with a dominant 4-0 win in late August.
Still, manager Simone Inzaghi knows better than to underestimate Gian Piero Gasperini’s charges.
Paganin is adamant that this season’s Scudetto race will go down to the wire.
Asked about his opinion on the leading duo, Paganin replied: “I like both for different reasons.
“Atalanta is probably the team in the best form in every aspect; it has never really been at the top like this before, and their confidence and awareness are at an all-time high.
“They are doing more than I expected. Inter is meeting expectations.
“But I still think we need to wait a bit longer for the true contenders of the league to become clearer.
“However, one thing is certain: both Inter and Atalanta will fight for the Scudetto until the very end.”
Inter and Atalanta will face off on another front in January.
Indeed, they will trade tackles in the upcoming Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals in Riyadh.
That would be a presentable opportunity for Inzaghi’s team to gain a psychological edge on the Bergamo outfit.
