Fabrizio Romano confirms Man United in “advanced talks” with Panathinaikos for Facundo Pellistri sale | OneFootball

Manchester United are in advanced talks with Greek side Panathinaikos for the sale of Facundo Pellistri, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Pellistri hasn’t featured for United in the Premier League since December 2023. He however came on as a substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend.

In that outing, Erik ten Hag deployed Pellistri at right-back, amidst the club’s lack of depth in the full-back positions.

Since the Red Devils signed Pellistri from Penarol in 2020 for around £7 million, the Uruguayan has been unable to nail down a consistent run of games.

While the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo have firmly cemented their places in the team, Pellistri has found minutes under Ten Hag very hard to come by.

He has been loaned out twice to La Liga and spent time with Alaves and most recently, Granada for the second part of the 2023/24 season.

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were in negotiations with Panathinaikos over a transfer for Pellistri.

It was subsequently mentioned that the player was open to joining the Greek outfit as he would almost certainly be guaranteed of first-team opportunities.

News on that front seemed to have gone quiet but Romano has now given an update and indicated that the deal is still very much on and could be completed soon.

The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Panathinaikos in advanced talks with Man United to sign Facundo Pellistri on permanent transfer.”

“Not finalised yet but negotiations are ongoing as Pellistri could leave Manchester United in the next days.”

Panathinaikos are not the only party thought to be in for Pellistri. Serie A club Bologna have also been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old.
