There was a moment in the summer where Chelsea considered the possibility of selling Noni Madueke according to Fabrizio Romano.

Madueke arrived at Chelsea from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a fee in the region of £29m, but had a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Last season started in similar fashion, but the England international finished the campaign strongly and scored a number of important goals at the back end of the season, which helped the Blues secure a top six finish and a return to European football.

Chelsea considered selling Madueke in the summer

The 22-year-old has carried that form into the new campaign and scored a brilliant hat-trick in the recent 6-2 against Wolves.

Madueke’s form saw him called up to the England squad for the first time and he made his debut for the Three Lions against Finland at Wembley during the recent international break.

Despite the arrival of Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix and Pedro Neto over the summer Madueke has risen to the challenge of the increased competition and made the right wing spot his own at the start of the season.

However, Romano has reported there’s a chance he may not have been at the club at all and there was a point during the summer window where the Blues considered selling him.

“There was a moment in the summer when Chelsea were considering the possibility of selling Noni Madueke at the end of June,” he told his YouTube channel.

“He was on the list of 2 clubs, Newcastle & RB Leipzig. At some point in August, he was considered untouchable.

“He is a very important player in Enzo Maresca’s project.”

It’s hard to imagine Madueke not at Chelsea given how important he’s been to the team at the start of the season and it feels like he’s really matured as a player and is tailor made for Enzo Maresca’s style of football.
