FC Bayern Women host Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup on Wednesday (kick-off: 6.30pm CET). Here’s all you need to know ahead of this huge tie between the current top two in the Bundesliga in our preview.
Bayern have made the perfect start to 2025 with two wins from two games. Alexander Straus’s side kicked off with a 1-0 victory at RB Leipzig before coming from behind to win 3-1 at Hoffenheim on Sunday. Those results keep the Munich Frauen hot on the heels of Eintracht, who are only top of the table on goal difference ahead of the defending champions.
Bayern booked their place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Freiburg. An own goal and further strike from Lea Schüller put the Bavarians in charge before Cora Zicai’s consolation set up a tense finish. Bayern opened their cup campaign with a 6-0 victory at Sand back in September.
Alara Şehitler scored at the weekend to help Bayern come from behind and beat Hoffenheim.
Frankfurt’s win at home to Turbine Potsdam on Sunday kept them level on points with Bayern but ahead in the standings on goal difference. They have also made a perfect start to 2025 with wins over Bayer Leverkusen (3-2) and then Potsdam (9-0). Their cup campaign has seen the Eagles take down Erfurt (10-0) and Union Berlin (2-0).
Bayern and Frankfurt met in the cup last season, as Mala Grohs emerged as the hero with her three saves in the semi-final shootout. The league encounter this term ended in a 1-1 draw at the FC Bayern Campus.
Bayern come into this cup tie still without Lena Oberdorf (knee ligaments), Katharina Naschenweng (knee joint) and Georgia Stanway (knee ligaments). Goalkeeper Grohs and defender Magdalena Eriksson are both available again.
Bayern progressed on penalties in their last cup tie with Eintracht.
Klara Bühl: “Frankfurt are very flexible and get forward well. They’re incredibly clinical and have very good strikers, but we’re prepared for that. Having the fans behind us will give us the extra power we need tomorrow.”
Alexander Straus: “It’ll be a tight game, as it always is against Frankfurt. There will be periods where we dominate and periods where Frankfurt will have the upper hand. We need to control the decisive periods of the game and win our duels. Both teams have individual quality. Frankfurt will come here with a lot of confidence, but we’re well prepared. It’ll be an exciting game.”
Bayern claimed another league victory over Hoffenheim at the weekend:
