Boca Juniors is heightening the negotiations with FC Dallas for the signing of Alan Velasco, an Argentine midfielder and one of the biggest names in MLS. According to TyC Sports, the offer that the Argentine club has made amounts to $6 million in cash, adding $2 million for goals achieved, but FC Dallas, the current club where he plays, wants $8 million to make the transfer.

Alan Velasco's worth to FC Dallas

Since his arrival in MLS, Alan Velasco has shown potential and quality, reasons that explain why Dallas resisted lower bids. In addition, the player renewed his contract in December of last year, signing until 2028, which further consolidated his value in the international market. After an ACL injury, Velasco returned to the field in August 2024, playing 371 minutes in eight games, scoring two goals.

Boca's interest and the complications of the transfer

For Boca Juniors, things are pretty clear; they want to bring Velasco in at La Bombonera. According to TyC Sports, they reached a salary agreement with the player a while ago but are still facing difficulties in the negotiations with FC Dallas. The Boca board, headed by Juan Román Riquelme, seeks a balance in the financial relationship and to answer the economic pretensions of MLS. It was not the first time Boca tried to buy the player, but this feels like a critical moment.

Velasco's weight in MLS, Dallas's reluctance

FC Dallas sees Velasco as a key member of its squad. A player who first made a name for himself at Independiente before joining Dallas, he is a rare technical profile and has been consistently creative for the American club. Still, despite Boca's enormous offer, Dallas doesn't budge and will only let go of Velasco if the $8 million asking price is met.

With their position, Dallas is faced with either cashing in on an asset or retaining a valuable piece for next season's campaign.

The future of Alan Velasco will be decided now

In case Boca Juniors overcomes the economic barriers and closes the deal, Velasco will be able to wear the jersey of the Argentine giant on one of the most iconic stages in world soccer. Otherwise, he will remain in MLS, where his talent might attract new offers in the future.

The result of this negotiation will be a litmus test of the changing market dynamics between South American soccer and MLS.
