Westerlo have announced that Emir Ortakaya has left the club after just six months in Belgium. The defender joined on loan from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the summer but has struggled for regular play time in the Pro League. Ortakaya has returned to his parent club, where he remains under contract until 2027.

Ortakaya only managed five appearances for Westerlo in both the league and the cup, providing one assist. The 20-year-old followed in the footsteps of a number of players from the Turkish top flight who have joined Westerlo on loan in recent years, given the clubs owners and their links to the country. Ortakaya also spent last season on loan domestically with Kocaelispor in the Turksih second tier. This was his second season on loan in the league, having also played a year with Goztepe. During the 2023/2024 campaign he played 31 games for Kocaelispor, scoring three goals. The young defender has yet to make a senior appearance for Fenerbahce.
