McNeill secured a move to Sheffield Wednesday early in the window and made his competitive debut for the Owls last night.

As reported by BBC Sport, the former United man got off to a dream start for his new side, slamming home two goals in the first 10 minutes of their Carabao Cup tie against Hull City.

Although he couldn’t find the hat-trick goal, McNeill’s brace was enough to secure a 2-1 success and grant Wednesday a safe passage into round two.

It took the 20 year old less than a minute to open his account, expertly finishing a clever Michael Smith flick via the underside of the bar.

Hull were able to restore parity soon after but were behind again in a flash as McNeill robbed the home goalkeeper of the ball before rolling into an empty net for his, and Wednesday’s, second.

The Englishman was substituted just before the hour mark, denying him the chance of a debut treble.

However, McNeill certainly made his mark on his maiden Wednesday appearance and will be hoping for a starting birth in the weekend fixture against Sunderland.

It came as a surprise to many to see McNeill leave United without being granted much of an opportunity in the first team at Old Trafford.

After poaching the striker from neighbours Manchester City, it was felt the young man was destined for a big future at the Theatre of Dreams.

Having now moved to the Championship, McNeill we be desperate to prove his worth to his new club and help them push for promotion to the promised land of the Premier League.

Wednesday got off to a fine start to the new season, winning 4-0 against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth at the weekend and will be hoping McNeill and co can fire them to glory this season.
