FPL Scout: Gameweek 7 hints, tips and advice | OneFootball

Brentford have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to help bring you hints, tips and advice during the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.

Scout will be using their expertise to provide info, advice and Gameweek tips which may prove useful in ensuring you sit on top of your mini-leagues.

Best of the Bees

Another early weekend goal means that Brentford are the first side in Premier League history to score within the first minute on three consecutive occasions. Just one other side has done it over a whole season - Everton in 1998/99 - never mind in sequence.

Thomas Frank’s side have seemingly mastered the kick-off routine, although there’s suddenly some pressure on the next coin toss - whether it’s Christian Nørgaard (£4.9m) or Vitaly Janelt (£4.9m) captaining the Bees versus Wolves.

It was again a Bryan Mbeumo (£7.4m) left-foot volley that broke Saturday’s deadlock - set up by Fábio Carvalho (£4.8m), who was featured in last week’s Spotlight.

The 25-year-old was FPL’s second-most bought player heading into Gameweek 6, purchased by over 1.1 million managers. This fifth goal in six matches instantly rewarded them with nine points.

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken (£4.5m) also entered many squads but owners will have been disappointed to see Tomáš Souček’s (£5.0m) equalise.

The Spotlight

Acquired by roughly 105,000 managers last week, those who activated their precious Wildcard chip were alert enough to see that summer signing Sepp van den Berg (£4.0m) has the lowest possible starting price and is one of the few of such value to actually be named in regular line-ups.

The Dutchman has begun each of Brentford’s last three.

In FPL, he’s the next great hope now that previous low-priced enablers Ben Johnson, Yerson Mosquera and Valentín Barco (all £4.0m) have been benched, injured and loaned out, respectively.

Recently brought in from Liverpool on a permanent deal, he could bring more than basic appearance points to the table. Van den Berg scored three times in 2023/24, when on loan at German side Mainz.

With appealing fixtures on the horizon, he’s a promising asset that also allows money to be spent elsewhere.

Best of the rest

Undoubtedly, Gameweek 6 belonged to Cole Palmer (£10.7m) and his four goals against Brighton. It brought glory to four million owners and euphoria to the 414,000 who captained the midfielder.

Meanwhile, assumptions of an Arsenal clean sheet were destroyed by Leicester full-back James Justin (£4.5m). Not only did he head an equaliser past David Raya (£5.6m) but, soon after, his sweet volley pinged in off the post.

Dwight McNeil (£5.5m) netted twice for Everton, joined in the double-digit club by Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins (£9.0m).

In Demand

It was no surprise to see Palmer lead the way as this week’s most-bought, though Mbeumo is currently in the number two spot.

Another Chelsea attacker is third - Nicolas Jackson (£7.8m). Although he only contributed an assist in their 4-2 win, it’s now three of those and four goals throughout the first six matches.

Captaincy

To summarise a generally miserable Gameweek for Wildcard users, popular captains Erling Haaland (£15.3m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) both chose this weekend to be their first blank of 2024/25.

Not that there’s any reason to lose faith in the pair. Haaland has 10 goals from his previous five league outings and is about to face Fulham at home. In last season’s equivalent meeting, he ended with a hat-trick plus an assist.

Saka will be hosting Southampton - and a more maverick possibility is Watkins against Manchester United.
