Frenkie de Jong names the ex-Barcelona star who was ‘best at everything’ in training | OneFootball

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has this week admitted that, during his early years with the club, one teammate stood out above all others not only on the pitch, but in training, too.

The individual in question? Lionel Messi.

Messi and De Jong spent two years lining out alongside one another in Catalunya’s capital, between 2019 and 2021.

And, during this time, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner left quite an impression on his one-time teammate.

Speaking in an interview with Voetbal International this week, De Jong was asked about his experience playing with, in the eyes of most, the greatest player to ever step foot on the pitch.

And the Dutchman made use of the opportunity to admit that:

“I’ve never seen such a big difference between one player and the rest. Whatever we did in training, Messi was the best, always. He sees solutions on the field that you as a coach cannot think of in advance.”
