According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan owner Gerry Cardinale personally decided to hire Sergio Conceiçao as the new head coach, while Paulo Fonseca didn’t feel protected.
A new era began in Milan as the Rossoneri sacked Fonseca to hire his compatriot Conceiçao. A former winger for Lazio, Inter and Parma, the Portuguese tactician has signed a contract to 2026.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Conceiçao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, already offered his client to Milan last summer before the Serie A giants hired Fonseca.

However, contacts resumed in recent weeks, and the two parties reached an agreement days before Milan’s 1-1 draw against Roma on Sunday.
According to Gazzetta, Fonseca could have saved his job only with a brilliant win against Roma.
The pink paper claims that Cardinale personally chose Conceiçao to replace Fonseca even though other candidates, such as Maurizio Sarri, were also running for the job.
According to the report, Conceiçao was picked, among other things, for his strong personality, which Cardinale and Milan’s directors believe will benefit the dressing room.
At the same time, Gazzetta claims that Fonseca didn’t feel protected during his six-month tenure and even if he didn’t voice his frustration publicly, he was visibly irritable in the last few weeks, and his rage ultimately erupted in his final game at San Siro against Roma, when he was sent off for dissent in the first half.
