Paulo Fonseca confirmed to reporters as he left San Siro that he has been fired by Milan. ‘It is true. My conscience is clear, I did all that I could.’

The coach had been forced to speak to DAZN and sit at a press conference answering questions about his imminent dismissal, insisting that he had not been informed of anything regarding his future.

All the while, multiple media sources all knew for hours that Sergio Conceicao had been lined up to replace him.

Only after these interviews and media duties was Fonseca told of the inevitable news by Milan directors.

Driving away from San Siro after midnight, following a 1-1 draw with Roma, he stopped briefly to speak with the journalists who remained.

“It is true, I am out of Milan. This is life. My conscience is clear, because I did all that I could.”
