PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) will miss Les Parisiens’ Champions League opener against La Liga side Girona on Wednesday, the Ligue 1 club has announced. The Italy international, whose wife just gave birth to a baby boy called Leo, seems to have sustained a small injury during PSG’s convincing 3-1 Ligue 1 home win against Stade Brestois on Saturday.

According to PSG, Donnarumma has felt muscular discomfort in his right hamstring against the Bretons. The club opted to monitor the Euro 2020 winner for the whole of next week, which means he is also set to miss PSG’s Ligue 1 clash against Reims at Stade Auguste-Delaune next Saturday. With Donnarumma on the sidelines, Luis Enrique is expected to field Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov (25) between the sticks. The €20m recruit from Krasnodar is yet to make his full debut with Les Parisiens.
