Guardiola insists he likes VAR despite disallowed goal against Spurs | OneFootball

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists he remains a fan of the use of VAR, despite seeing a late goal dramatically disallowed against Tottenham last weekend.

Gabriel Jesus thought he had secured all three points for the Man City at the Etihad, only for VAR to disallow the stoppage-time winner following a handball in the build-up by Aymeric Laporte.

Despite the controversy surrounding the technology Guardiola insists that he supports VAR, but believes it will take time for the Premier League to adjust to the changes.

“I like VAR because it provides justice. This is the first season. It helps to be more fair to referees. I think in the end it will be right.

“I had the same opinion from the beginning. I support the technology. But during the process, it needs time to adjust.”

The disallowed goal sparked an angry response from scorer Jesus, with confusion amongst both sets of players as to why the strike was ruled out.

Guardiola admits the reaction of his players was normal, but says his side must move on as they look ahead to this week’s trip to Bournemouth.

“It’s emotional when you score a goal in that way,” the Catalan said. “His reaction was normal. He was not upset. The reaction from Tottenham players shows that they didn’t know why it was disallowed. They accepted it was a goal.

“The reaction of our players was normal.

“We have to keep going. It’s done. We have to move forward.”
