Pep Guardiola offered a cryptic response to Jack Grealish’s England call up, with the 29-year-old ruled out of Manchester City’s game against Brighton through injury.

The England international has not featured for City since his cameo off the bench against Wolves on October 20, and has missed the last five games with a hip injury.

Explaining his decision to pick Grealish, England interim manager Lee Carsley said, “Jack’s been training at City for the last couple of days. So we’re hoping that we’ll assess him when he comes into camp.

“Jack is in the same position as maybe four or five other players that there’s question marks over whether they’re going to be involved or not,” Carsley admitted. “We try and give them as long as we can.”

But when asked to comment on Grealish’s inclusion in the England squad, Guardiola responded, “It’s a question for the manager from England [Lee Carsley].”

The Manchester City boss also revealed that the club record signing was not fit to play a part in Saturday’s game against Brighton, responding with a simple “No” when questioned about his availability.

The Citizens will look to bounce back after suffering three defeats in as many games. City have never lost four successive games under Guardiola, and they will look to get back to winning ways ahead of the upcoming international break.
