The last night was another one to remember for FC Barcelona as they beat one of their direct La Liga contenders, Atletico Madrid in a thrilling 2-4 encounter.
The Blaugranes saw themselves trailing the Colchoneros by 2 goals by the 70th minute but were able to score four goals in the final 20 minutes and the injury time of the game to emerge victorious in this crucial game.
With these four goals, Mundo Deportivo notes that Barcelona have taken their season tally to 132 goals, and are on track to beating the record of scoring the highest number of goals in a single season that was set by Pep Guardiola’s Blaugrana team back in the 2011-12 season when they scored 190 goals.
Of the 132 goals that the Catalans have scored so far this season, 75 have come in La Liga, 32 in the UEFA Champions League, 18 in Copa del Rey, and 7 in the Spanish Super Cup.
Hansi Flick’s team is scoring at an average of 3.06 goals per game, and if they remain alive in all the competitions till the very end, they will play 18 more matches this season.
If they continue to score at the average they have recorded up to now, they will reach 187 goals by the end of this campaign, which is only 3 goals short of the record set by Guardiola’s legendary team.
So far, there have been only 2 games in which Barcelona have been unable to score this season, against Leganes and Real Sociedad. The team’s top scorers have been Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal, with 35, 27, and 13 goals respectively, while Ferran Torres also has 13 goals.
The other two teams that have come closest to reaching the historic record set by Guardiola’s team have been Salzburg in 2013-14 and Ajax in 2018-19.
