Harry Maguire proves he still has huge role to play at Man United in superb performance vs. Fulham | OneFootball

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire produced a superb defensive performance as his side beat Fulham 1-0 in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford.

United clinched all three points courtesy of a late goal from new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

Despite United’s dominance for large spells of the game, Fulham also had chances to hurt the Red Devils but fortunately, they didn’t take their opportunities.

One such instance came about in the second half when the Cottagers broke through on United’s goal. Maguire found himself in an extremely risky two-versus-one situation with plenty of space to defend.

It looked like he was in real danger of being exposed but he somehow managed to come up with a huge block to snuff out the danger.

Beyond his clutch challenge, Maguire was a beast in the air for United as he won most if not all his duels in the air.

During the 81 minutes he was on the pitch, Maguire made an amazing five clearances and blocked one shot from testing Andre Onana in goal.

The England international made two interceptions.

He won one of the three ground duels he delved into and four of the five aerial challenges he was required to contest.

Maguire registered a total of 69 touches and successfully found his teammates with 47 of the 57 passes he attempted, managing a pass accuracy of 82%.

The United No.5 tried to ping five long balls and successfully connected twice. He embarked on two dribbles and completed one.

Amidst speculation over his future with the Red Devils, Maguire proved against Fulham that he still has a huge role to play at the club.
