Harry Maguire is willing to fight for his place at Manchester United despite the two new additions made at centre-back this summer, according to reports.

The arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt are likely to push the England international down the pecking order at United, granted both new signings are fit at the same time which won’t be the case for at least three months.

Yoro has been ruled out of action with a metatarsal injury, which required surgery, and he will now miss the beginning of the season – making De Ligt’s timely arrival even sweeter.

A report from HITC claims Maguire believes he can still be an important player for United this season. Furthermore, the report outlines that Maguire never had an interest in leaving the club this summer.

HITC add that United are ‘pushing’ Victor Lindelof towards the exit door this summer, but Stretty News understands that the Swede would prefer to remain at the club.

United are next in action on Friday night when they kick off the new Premier League season at Old Trafford against Fulham. It remains to be seen if Maguire will make the starting line-up.

I think it would be naive to lose both Lindelof and Maguire this summer after the problems we had with injuries across our defence last season, but the Swede would get the chop first if it were up to me.

Maguire can definitely prove to be an important player at United this season and he was one of few players to perform well – when fit – last term.
