Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has heaped praise on Robert Sanchez following his performance against Bournemouth and described him as a “specimen of a goalkeeper.”
Sanchez has struggled following his £25m move from Brighton in the summer of 2023 and despite a positive start to last season season he lost his place to Djordje Petroivic through injury and didn’t get it back.
Many Chelsea supporters would have been happy to see Sanchez leave in the summer, and it appeared his days at Stamford Bridge could have been numbered following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen, but it was instead Petrovic who left and joined Strasbourg on loan.
Sanchez has started the season as Enzo Maresca’s first choice keeper, with Jorgensen playing in the Europa Conference League against Servette.
There are still question marks over the Spaniard’s distribution, but he put in arguably his best display in a Chelsea shirt against Bournemouth.
Sanchez made several brilliant saves and kept Evanilson’s first half penalty out, and Blues fans will be wondering why they can’t see performances like this on a more regular basis.

Former keeper Foster thought Sanchez was man of the match against the Cherries and described the former Brighton man as a “specimen of a goalkeeper.”
“Sanchez, man of the match [against Bournemouth], penalty save, a couple of very good saves in the game as well,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“He’s had a bit of a rocky start to the season, he physically looks like he’s an absolute athlete, a specimen of a goalkeeper.

“He looks like he’s got absolutely everything. Just sometimes some goals go in and you question his positioning. But in this game, he was incredible.”
Sanchez’s confidence will no doubt be boosted by his performance and the fact he kept a clean sheet, which was Chelsea’s first of the season and he will be hoping for more of the same against West Ham on Saturday.
