Erling Haaland has further piled on the praise for Manchester City’s head coach in light of the 53-year-old’s two-year contract extension at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola brought an end to widespread speculation over his future towards the end of last week, by penning a longer-than-expected extension to his existing Manchester City contract, which was originally due to expire at the end of this season.

As such, Manchester City fans can expect the Catalan tactician to largely oversee the construction of the next phase of the football club, with Guardiola due to be accompanied by Hugo Viana on a full-time basis from next summer.

The Portuguese official will take the role of sporting director at the Etihad Stadium, succeeding Txiki Begiristain after a hugely successful 12-season stay in the position and having largely overseen the greatest period in the club’s history.

But it is certainly not just Manchester City supporters that have been left overjoyed by the decision from Pep Guardiola to remain at the club, with one of their more senior stars issuing his own praise on the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Erling Haaland was keen to highlight that not only is the Manchester City coach the very best in the world, but perhaps the greatest manager to have ever graced the game.

“He’s the best manager in the world, and he’s probably the best that ever existed on the Earth,” Haaland told reporters. “I expected lots of things from him, and he’s been delivering up to this every single second. So I’m super happy, and you can also see that when I play as well.”

Commenting on Guardiola’s unrelenting desire to win and secure success, Erling Haaland said, “He always wants to put perfection on it.

“Of course perfection doesn’t exist, but I think also the hungriness, how much he wants to develop players, and how much he wants to develop me, and of course how much he wants to win football games.

“In the end, it’s about winning trophies and that’s the most important thing.”

Manchester City fans will now be hoping that Guardiola can find it within himself to carry the club out of their five-game rut, with the first-team squad falling to a shock 0-4 home defeat at the hands of Tottenham on Saturday evening.

City face Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening, before attentions will turn back to the Premier League and a clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, in what some are already describing as an early potential title-decider.
