FLW have looked at Nagle's net worth compared to other owners across the Championship, League One and League Two

Kevin Nagle has been the sole owner of Huddersfield Town for just over 18 months now, and has overseen a turbulent time at the John Smith's Stadium so far, with the club relegated from the Championship to League One last season.

The Terriers did the unthinkable and reached the Premier League in 2017 under previous owner and chairman Dean Hoyle, but their stint in the top-flight lasted just two years before they sunk back into the second-tier in 2019.

They soon began to struggle in the Championship, and after Hoyle took over at the John Smith's Stadium for the second time in 2022 from Phil Hodgkinson, Nagle then moved to acquire the club in March 2023 ahead of last season.

Nagle was announced as their new owner in June of the same year, via his company, Town FC LLC, in what many supporters viewed as a new dawn for the Terriers, but he has failed to deliver on many on-field promises in the year-and-a-half since.

Huddersfield are currently back in the third-tier after 12 years away following relegation last season, and Nagle has entrusted Michael Duff to oversee their return to the Championship at the first time of asking this term.

Minnesota-born Nagle was educated in business and politics at both California State University and the University of Southern California, and has built his wealth throughout his career in management positions at numerous healthcare companies in the States.

He was the co-founder and CEO of EnvisionRx, a healthcare and pharmacy benefit management company, from 2001 to 2014, but sold the business in 2015 for a reported figure of over £1.8 billion. Nagle has also previously been an investor in NBA franchise Sacramento Kings, but sold his shares for a reported £6.7bn.

The 70-year-old's official net worth has not been reported as yet, but The Sun has previously described him as a multi-billionaire, which seems about right, given his previous background and wealth accrued from his various ventures in sports and business.

Kevin Nagle's net worth compared to the richest EFL owners

Nagle is clearly a very wealthy man, but his net worth is eclipsed by numerous other owners in the Football League, and particularly the Championship. Queens Park Rangers' owner Lakshmi Mittal, for example, is the richest in the EFL, with his net worth believed to be over £13 billion right now.

The current second-richest owners are actually believed to be overseeing proceedings at League One outfit Barnsley. Neerav Parekh, Julie Anne Quay, Chien Lee and the Cryne Family are believed to have a combined wealth of around £7.2 billion, with Parekh hailing from a family that boasts a combined net worth of £11.6 billion through part-ownership of India-based sealant company Pidilite Industries.

In third place are Championship high-flyers Leeds United, with the American-based York Family, who also own 49ers Enterprises alongside the Whites, thought to be worth around £5.3 billion right now. Stoke City are not too far behind as the fourth-richest, with club owner and bet365 co-founder and co-CEO John Coates believed to boast a current net worth of £3.6 billion.

The Championship understandably produces the majority of the wealthiest owners in the EFL, with it being the highest league in the pyramid just below the Premier League, but other than the aforementioned Tykes, Nagle may well lay claim to being one of the wealthiest owners in the third-tier.

Wycombe Wanderers chief and majority shareholder Mikhail Lomtadze is believed to be worth just over £4.5bn right now, which likely makes him the second-richest owner in League One at this moment in time.

Mike Danson, who is the outright owner of Wigan Athletic, is reported to have a net-worth of around £1.2bn. That is likely to be slightly less than Nagle's current wealth, and so the Terriers' American owner can presumably be regarded as the third-richest owner in the third-tier right now.
