Huddersfield Town are in talks with Watford over the potential signing of Rhys Healey this January.
According to The Athletic, the Terriers are close to agreeing a deal to sign the 29-year-old from their Championship rivals.
Healey only joined the Hornets last summer as a free agent after departing French side Toulouse.
However, he has been unable to cement his place as a regular part of Valerien Ismael’s team, starting once in the league and making a further 10 appearances as a substitute.
The forward has contributed two goals and one assist for Ismael’s side so far this season.
It has been reported that Huddersfield are closing in on the signing of Healey on a permanent basis.
It is believed that a fee in the region of £2 million has been agreed, with the player set to join the Yorkshire outfit after just six months with Watford.
Huddersfield are keen to strengthen their attacking options as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
This month is Darren Moore’s first opportunity to put his stamp on the first team squad at the John Smith’s stadium, having arrived as manager in September after the previous summer market.
A new striker has been sought, with the Englishman set to be the club’s third arrival of the month.
Alex Matos and Bojan Radulovic have already signed for the team, with Matos joining from Chelsea as part of a loan agreement and Radulovic coming as part of a permanent deal with Finnish side HJK Helsinki.
Meanwhile, Watford will now be searching for a permanent striker addition amid the impending absence of Healey.
Ismael is keen to sign a replacement, with the club set to earn a small profit on a player they signed for nothing last summer.
Huddersfield are sitting 21st in the Championship table, just four points clear of the relegation zone after 27 games.
The Terriers will be keen to remain in the second division, having narrowly avoided relegation last year as well.
Moore’s side is winless in their last three games, with Sheffield Wednesday and QPR both trying to close the gap to safety below them in the standings.
Elsewhere, Watford are eighth in the table, one point outside of the play-off places.
The club will be aiming to fight for promotion in 2024 as they seek a Premier League return at the second time of asking.
Healey’s time at Vicarage Road will ultimately be short-lived, but it represents good business from Watford.
They signed him for nothing last summer, and are now set to make a £2 million profit.
A replacement will need to be signed in order to keep a healthy balance to their attacking options for the second half of the season, but his departure won’t be a massive blow.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield are signing someone who has bedded into life in the Championship and has proven he can contribute in attack at this level with his two goals in 11 games for the Hornets.
