Huddersfield Town are unlikely to be able to secure a move to re-sign midfielder Carel Eiting this summer with Ajax set to make a key decision over the 23-year-old’s future, according to Yorkshire Live.

Eiting spent the season on loan with the Terriers in the Championship and he was a regular during the first half of the campaign for Carlos Corberan’s side. However, he suffered a knee injury in January that ruled him out for most of the second half of the season.

He did return to action for them towards the end of the campaign, making four more appearances against Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City and Reading.

The midfielder was able to deliver some promising performances throughout his loan spell and he managed to register three goals and three assists in his 23 Championship appearances.

According to Yorkshire Live’s latest update, the Terriers would be interested in trying to secure a fresh move to have him in their squad again for next season.

However, Yorkshire Live’s update also suggests that a move to re-sign Eiting this summer is not likely to prove successful for the Terriers. That comes with it being believed that Ajax would be wanting to potentially hold on to him and give him a chance in their side next term. While if they are to agree to another temporary switch it is likely to be to a team at a higher level than Huddersfield.

The verdict

This is undoubtedly a major blow for the Terriers. Eiting is a player that could have been an excellent signing for them to make this summer now that he has had a year to get to grips with the Championship. The 23-year-old has plenty of ability and he could have shown a lot more of his talent had he not picked up that knee injury in January.

Ajax clearly see him as a player with ability beyond that of the Championship and by this update, they are wanting to assess whether he could even return to their squad and contribute for them next season.

Eiting might not be ready to go straight into their first-team as of yet but he showed that he has the potential to make it to that level during his time with the Terriers.

Not being able to re-sign Eiting would be a blow for the Terriers, but they will have plenty of time to assess potential alternatives. Their transfer business has already started to take shape and they have made some sensible signings already this window.
