Inter Milan star Carlos Augusto praised Davide Frattesi after last night’s Champions League victory against Bayern Munich.

Speaking to InterTV via FCInterNews, Augusto opened up on his return to form after a torrid first half of the season.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, he lives in the Federico Dimarco era.

Therefore, he has had to settle for a bit-part role in Simone Inzaghi’s system this past couple of seasons.

However, Augusto’s versatility allows him to cover several roles at the back.

Last night, he deputized for Dimarco on the left wing and excelled.

Indeed, he delivered a crucial assist for Davide Frattesi in the 88th minute to secure a massive win at the Allianz Stadium.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring with his seventh Champions League this season.

The 26-year-old has shown glimpses of his formidable Monza form this season.

More importantly, his best moments have often found perfect timings, like last night.

“I’m getting back to the level I showed at Monza, but I’m happier for Frattesi than for myself,” he said.

“He went through a tough time and I’m glad he found this goal.

“We know how to suffer, we had a great first half and then struggled a bit. In the end, we won, but there’s still the second leg to play.

“Sometimes people don’t talk enough about how big Inter really is – it’s a great team and it should always be at the top.

“But we know the Champions League is a different kind of competition and you have to stay sharp.

“Playing every three days is tough, but being in the running on three fronts in April is important.

“It’s demanding, but it’s really exciting.”

Inter cannot take their feet off the gas as they meet Cagliari in a must-win home league game next weekend.
