Inter Milan have confirmed that midfielder Nicolo Barella has suffered a thigh injury.
The club announce that the 27-year-old underwent medical tests today. These confirm that he has suffered a strain to his right thigh.
Barella started for Inter in Monday’s Serie A win over Lazio.
The former Cagliari midfielder was on the scoresheet. He found the back of the net from range for Inter’s third goal, at the start of the second half.
This was the second Serie A match in a row in which Barella has scored for Inter.
However, the Italian international had to come off as a substitute in the second half.
Initially, the hope was that Barella was just coming off due to slight muscular fatigue.
However, the discomfort has proven to be persistent for the 27-year-old. He did not participate in training yesterday.
Therefore, Barella underwent MRI tests with the Inter medical staff today.
And these tests confirm that Barella has in fact suffered an injury. They showed a strain to the adductor longus muscles in his right thigh.
The club state that the 27-year-old’s recovery will be monitored day by day.
Barella will certainly not be part of the squad for this evening’s Coppa Italia round of sixteen clash with Udinese.
Inter’s next match is next match after this evening is on Monday. They face Como in Serie A.
