Inter take on Atalanta in the semifinal stage of the Supercoppa Italiana this evening.

And the Nerazzurri will know full well the challenge that lays in store for them.

Atalanta are one of the strongest teams in Italy, and have been for some time. They’re currently joint top of the Serie A table along with Napoli, albeit with Inter having a game in hand.

Atalanta are regulars in the Champions League. Last season, meanwhile, they won the Europa League.

Therefore, despite not having as decorated a history as some other teams in Serie A, there is no doubt that Atalanta are formidable opposition for even the biggest names.

Inter President Beppe Marotta: “Atalanta No Longer An Outsider”

Inter President Marotta noted that “Atalanta are no longer an outsider, but now they’re a reality.”

“That’s also the case in Europe,” he noted.

“Because of a cycle that they began years ago.”

“There isn’t one thing in particular,” Marotta said of Atalanta’s success. “The club, the coach, and the players are all top-class.”

Meanwhile, of this evening’s match and the Supercoppa Italiana in general, Marotta said that “Starting the year off well is very important.”

“Inter always want to be right up there. We want to win against tough opposition.”

“It will be a good match,” the Nerazzurri President anticipated.

And of Inter’s ambitions to win trophies, Marotta said that “The history of this club and the list of its successes teachers us that this is what we have to do.”

“We’re playing in a lot of different competitions,” the Inter President noted. “And our objective is always to try and win.”

“We have to give everything,” Marotta said. “And then if other teams prove to be better than us, we’ll applaud them.”

“Throughout the history of Inter there’s always been an obligation to aspire towards the absolute maximum.”
