Kevin Danso (26) was a surprise absentee as RC Lens beat SCO Angers (1-0) on Sunday afternoon. A report from RMC Sport cast doubt on the reason for this omission.
Officially, Danso missed the game due to pain in his knee, however, this is not the version of events recounted by RMC Sport, who believe that the Austrian was posturing to force a departure from Les Sang et Or. Danso, who almost left Lens in the summer before failing his medical ahead of his prospective move to AS Roma, has been a target for Premier League clubs, notably Wolverhampton Wanderers but also Southampton, with whom he spent a year on loan earlier in his career.
However, having already sold one centre-back, Abdukodir Khusanov, this January, Lens are not necessarily looking to make further sales. However, Lens manager Will Still has denied the report.
“Danso doesn’t want to leave. He is not sabotaging us. He hurt himself in training. He took the ball on his ankle, which twisted and it pulled on his knee,” said the Englishman. The plan, seemingly, is not to sell their Austrian centre-back.
