Italy have confirmed that defender Giorgio Scalvini will miss Euro 2024 after suffering an injury on Sunday.

Frustratingly for the Azzurri, the Atalanta man picked up the problem in what was effectively a meaningless fixture, with his side facing Fiorentina in the final Serie A game of the season.

The match was delayed due to both teams competing in their respective finals of European competition and was played on Sunday, with Scalvini exiting in the final five minutes with a knee issue.

The FIGC have now announced that Scalvini has ruptured the ACL in his left knee and will not only miss Euro 2024 but will not return to action until next year as a result.

Versatile Juventus man Federico Gatti has been called up to replace the 20-year-old.

Gatti was already placed on standby last Friday following Francesco Acerbi's withdrawal from the camp.
