Manchester United have considerably strengthened at the back but left-back remains an area of concern following Luke Shaw’s injury.

Diogo Dalot was forced to fill in at left-back in the England international’s absence against Fulham while new signing Noussair Mazraoui performed admirably on the right.

The Moroccan can play on both flanks, which was one of the reasons why he was brought in, as Shaw’s poor injury record means he cannot be trusted for the majority of the season.

Tyrell Malacia missed the entirety of last season and will return in October and will be lacking in match sharpness and that is why Erik ten Hag wants a specialist, even if for a short-term duration.

Ferdi Kadıoğlu of Fenerbahce is one name that is constantly getting linked with a move to Old Trafford but the race for his signature will not be easy.

Brighton and Hove Albion are seemingly leading the charge, even agreeing personal terms ahead of placing a mammoth offer but the Turkish side are holding out for more, hoping that the Red Devils can come in and trump the Seagulls.

United’s former coach Jose Mourinho, who is currently the Fener boss, has already zeroed in on his preferred replacement should the Euro 2024 star end up departing this window.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Old Trafford due to Shaw and Malacia’s injury nightmare, has been linked with a move to Turkey.

According to Fotomac, “Fenerbahçe, who have started looking for a left back due to Ferdi’s impending departure, has their first target as coach Jose Mourinho’s former student from Tottenham , Sergio Reguilon.

“Official contacts will soon begin for the Spanish left back, who is not considered as a member of the first team squad by Tottenham.”

The Spaniard was briefly linked with a return to Manchester but now it seems he is going to reunite with his former Spurs boss.

Former United star set to be Ferdi’s replacement

Reguilon’s arrival will likely mean Kadıoğlu will be sold and it remains to be seen if United can outbid Brighton this time around.

The 20-time English league champions have already spent a considerable amount of money on four new signings and they also want a new midfielder and a forward before the window slams shut.

That means not much money is there to spend on a new left-back with the Red Devils open to recruiting a free agent or a player on loan if possible.

Marcos Alonso, formerly of Chelsea and Barcelona, and former Atletico Madrid star Mario Hermoso fit that description, not the Turkiye international.
