Arsenal tend to pick up the odd bargain in the transfer window and it’s been a good couple of years for the gunners, who have added Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira , Kieran Tierney and Matteo Guendouzi to the squad for relatively small fees. There is another that is now on that list and his name is Gabriel Martinelli
His low key summer acquisition baffled many but they are starting to realize that for £6.3m, Arsenal picked the pocket of his former club Ituano. Brazilian teen, Gabriel Martinelli, is one of those rare prospects who has the ability to shine on any stage, regardless of his inexperience.
When Arsenal entered into negotiations with Ituano FC, there were 25 clubs around the globe that were interested and it’s thought that Arsenal’s technical director Edu, played a major part in convincing the youngster to move to the Emirates.
Martinelli announced his arrival with a string of confident displays and he has so much natural talent that his presence has overshadowed the majority of academy talents at Unai Emery’s disposal. He possesses great balance, vision and touch with composure beyond his years, an inbuilt radar for space and goal scoring opportunities.
Such are his performances that it’s desperately hard to think that Emery can keep him from featuring regularly in the first team or that he would even want to. With seven goals in seven games, he’s hard to ignore and right now the side needs goals. Arsenal also need impetus and energy and Martinelli has both in abundance.
Manchester United offered Gabriel Martinelli four trials but never triggered a transfer, with the youngster even lining up alongside Mason Greenwood in a youth team side back in 2017.
His performance in the EFLCup indicate that he is more than ready for the rigours of the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp is clearly a fan. Klopp said:
“He’s a talent of the century, he’s an incredible striker, so it’s really difficult.” “Then you have Mesut Ozil around and (Joe) Willock right, who scored by the way a really nice one, so a team like Arsenal in a counter-attacking mood – we keep them deep, play around them, we lose the ball and then it’s really difficult.”
Will he get the nod against Wolves ? I hope so, he has so much talent at his disposal and some have even dared to compare him to Ronaldo, which are big shoes to fill. If he becomes half as good, Klopp will be even more in awe of Arsenal’s savvy purchase.
