Lazio are looking to add a new mifielder to their ranks in January, but their pursuit will largely depend on the fate of Gaetano Castrovilli.
The Biancocelesti took a chance on the 27-year-old last summer after being released by Fiorentina due to his lengthy injury ordeal. However, the Italian’s first few months at Formello also had their fair share of physical problems which derailed his momentum. Therefore, some reports suggest the two parties could put a premature end to their collaboration in January.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Castovilli’s future will loom large on the club’s plans. At the moment, the Biancocelesti don’t have room for a new senior player in the Serie A squad, so if the Euro 2020 winner winds up staying in the Italian capital, any new arrivals would have to be under the age of 22.
Hence, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani drew a five-man shortlist that contains young and exciting profiles. As the Roman newspaper explains, Reda Belahyane remains on the club’s radar, despite Fabiani’s recent denials. The 20-year-old made his Serie A debut under Marco Baroni last season after signing for Hellas Verona in January, and has now become a regular feature. His valuation is circa €10 million, but the price could rise due to competition from Inter and Napoli.
The source then mentions 19-year-old Stade Reims talent Valentin Atangana who would cost less than €10M, and 22-year-old Ismael Kone who is struggling for playing time at Olympique Marseille. The latter’s market value is around €12 million.
Cesare Casadei also finds himself in a similar situation at Chelsea, and he’s been on Lazio’s radar for quite some time, but he’s also a target for Monza. Finally, the report confirms Lazio’s interest in Jacopo Fazzini, but Empoli are shooting high for the talented 21-year-old, seeking at least €20 million.
