Lazio are reportedly one of three European clubs who have enquired about the availability of Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.
The Biancocelesti have prioritized the signing of a new midfielder in January, and Cesare Casadei is one of the main names on the shortlist, alongside Jacopo Fazzini and Reda Belahyane. However, the management is also keeping an eye on opportunities to enhance other departments, including the defence.
So according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Casadei isn’t the only Chelsea player on Lazio’s wishlist, as the Biancocelesti have also requested information on Veiga who is another young player starving for playing time at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old is a Sporting CP youth product who is coming off an impressive campaign at FC Basel which earned him a summer switch to Chelsea for circa €14 million. The Portuguese is originally a centre-back but has been playing at left-back under the guidance of Enzo Mareca. Therefore, Lazio appreciate his ability to cover several roles in defence.
However, the Aquile are facing competition from two big European sides. The source claims that Roberto De Zebri’s Olympique Marseille is aiming to sign Veiga on a permanent basis, while Borussia Dortmund would love to host him on loan until the end of the season, a solution that would appease Chelsea.
