According to Florian Plettenberg, Lennard Maloney will be left out of the Heidenheim squad for their match against Union Berlin this afternoon amid interest from fellow Bundesliga outfit Mainz.
It is understood that the decision for the midfielder to miss the clash at the Voith Arena was made on Thursday afternoon, and there will be no change of plans to include the 25-year-old in the matchday squad.
As stated within the report, a deal for Mainz to sign Maloney on a free transfer in the summer is close to being finalised, with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.
However, despite this, there are currently no negotiations taking place between the two sides regarding a possible move in the winter.
Therefore, it is expected that Maloney will return to first-team action for Heidenheim once a deal for him to sign for Die Nullfünfer is officially completed.
