Lieke Martens' European Championship is over through injury

The Netherlands have announced that Lieke Martens will play no further part in this summer’s European Championship.

The 29-year-old picked up a foot injury during her side’s 4-1 win over Switzerland in their final group game on Sunday.

But tests on that issue have now ruled Martens out of the rest of the tournament.

“This is terrible news for Lieke and for us. She fully committed herself to the team during this tournament,” head coach Mark Parsons stated.

“It is very unfortunate that her Euros is ending like this.”

The PSG attacker will leave the defending champions’ training camp on Tuesday evening and no replacement can be called up.
