Paris Saint-Germain took a short-term approach last year, loaning Xavi Simons back to RB Leipzig. However, things are more settled—Simons officially made the move permanent in the early part of this year, bringing this saga to an end.

That could actually work in PSG’s favor. A new report suggests there were questions about Simons’ attitude during his loan, which might have caused issues had he returned. Paris did include a sell-on clause in the deal, but off-field concerns could affect how much value they ultimately get from it.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United might have an advantage over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal is done: Leipzig paid a total of €80 million, including add-ons, with €55 million upfront. Simons is signed through June 2027, but with several top clubs still interested, it’s far from certain he’ll see out the full contract.

What’s the latest on Xavi Simons?

Romano reported Sunday that a summer move for Simons is very much on the table. Premier League clubs have been informed, with England looking like the most likely destination—Leipzig would be due around €75 million. While Simons still dreams of playing for Barcelona someday, that move isn’t expected to happen this summer.

PSG will monitor Leipzig’s sale price for the midfielder, but a sale might not happen this summer.

“I’m still a young player, I have many dreams – and the club knows that,” Simons said. “But right now, the most important thing for me is to play well in the upcoming games. Then we have the international matches, and after that we’ll sit down and see what happens.”
